The Original 13 Trade
Once established each colony engaged in trade with England using the natural resources and raw materials that were determined by the climate and different types of soil. Trade in the New England regions that consisted of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire was based on fish, whale products, timber, furs, maple syrup, copper, horses, rum and beer. Trade in the Middle regions that consisted of New York, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania was based on farming and crops, especially wheat. Trade in the Southern regions that consisted of  Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia was based on cash crops such as tobacco, cotton, sugar and rice.

Original 13 Colonies - Virginia
Virginia was the First Colony to be be established in Colonial America. The Virginia Colony was founded by John Smith and other colonists backed by the London Company, at Jamestown.

Original 13 - Massachusetts
Massachusetts was the Third Colony to be be established in Colonial America. The Massachusetts Colony was founded by John Winthrop and other Puritans, at Massachusetts Bay.

Original 13 Colonies - Maryland
Maryland was the Fourth Colony to be be established in Colonial America. The Maryland Colony was founded by George Calvert, Lord Baltimore and other colonists, at Baltimore.

New York was the Second Colony to be be established in Colonial America. The New York Colony was classified as one of the Middle Colonies. It was founded by the Duke of York and other colonists on Manhattan Island.
